Congratulations to Joanie Bouchard in her new role as Registrar for The College of Dietitians of British Columbia. Full release from CDBC below:

“On behalf of the Board of Directors of the College of Dietitians of BC (CDBC), I’m very pleased to announce that Joanie Bouchard, MSc, RD has been selected as the College’s new Registrar. She’ll start her position June 12, 2017 at our office in Vancouver.

Joanie comes to the CDBC from Quebec where she is currently the Director of Professional Affairs for the Ordre Professionnel des Diététistes du Québec (OPDQ), Quebec’s regulatory college for Dietitians.  In addition to being a Registered Dietitian, she has over 5 years experience in a leadership and management role that includes Board and committee support, quality assurance, stakeholder collaboration and strategic communications.

During her years at OPDQ, Joanie worked to expand dietetic regulation and legal authorization for additional medical activities including prescribing nutritional formulas, vitamins and minerals, removing feeding tubes and administering drugs, including barium for Modified Barium Swallow examinations. To accomplish this regulatory work, Joanie worked closely with Quebec’s regulatory college of physicians and the ministry of health. Another significant public protection achievement was revising OPDQ’s Continuing Competency Program (CCP) to a fully automated system that includes implementation of an annual reporting requirement and a mandatory audit of all Dietitians every three years.

Joanie has a solid understanding of challenges and issues related to public protection, having participated in numerous national and international regulatory conferences and courses. For the last several years Joanie also represented OPDQ at national meetings of the Alliance of Canadian Dietetic Regulatory Bodies (the Alliance), the Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice (PDEP) and the PDEP Steering Committee, giving her a strong familiarity of Canadian dietetic regulation and legislation. Joanie also has extensive experience as a Dietitian having practiced dietetics in residential, rehabilitation and acute care settings. She holds a Master of Science degree from the University of Montreal, completing research in physical therapy combined with nutrition supplementation during brain rehabilitation.

Please join me in welcoming Joanie to the CDBC and to Vancouver. The Board, staff and I look forward to working with Joanie!

Tina Hartnell, MBA, RD Chair, CDBC Board of Directors”
